| $@%&! level: Low “Bedroom” level: None Violence level: Low (Paddy roughs up a couple of thieves after they rough up a priest) Back Cover: “From his perch high above the bustling Dublin streets, a gargoyle named Padraig keeps watch over his beloved city. It was once beautifully elegant, brilliantly sacred. But now something has changed. He can feel it... On a bitterly cold December night, vandals break into St. Patrick's Cathedral. Paddy melts into the darkness in search of revenge—but nothing could have prepared him for the evil that descends when he finds it...” |
Once the real conflict is revealed (eventually), it becomes a classic Katherine Kurtz story, complete with religious incantations and Knights Templar and departed spirits rising from the dead. So fans of her work will have their cravings satisfied, with the added bonus (in my opinion) of living gargoyles. Because who doesn't like the idea of statues that are ugly on the outside but beautiful on the inside, and are perfectly willing to beat up bad guys?
And yes, the end is all about the eternal nature of love, and totally worth crying over—if you happen to be the kind of person who's prone to that.
